Dental Hygiene in walberton

Dental Hygiene appointments will leave your teeth and mouth feeling clean and fresh

It’s estimated that nine out of 10 adults in the UK have at least some degree of gum disease. What many people don’t realise is that as well as being the leading cause of tooth loss, gum disease is also associated with an increased risk of other serious health conditions such as heart disease and strokes.

At Walberton Dental Surgery Ltd, we are dedicated to treating and preventing this condition and have been successfully doing so for some time.

Dental Hygiene

Dental hygienists are specially trained to work as part of the dental team to give care to patients. Dental hygienist appointments are important for patients of all ages.

Dental Hygiene appointments play an important part in dental health care and are mainly concerned with preventative dental care, treating gum disease and showing you the best way to keep your teeth free of plaque.

At your Dental Hygiene appointment, we will remove plaque and tartar (soft and hard plaque), particularly from important areas that are difficult to reach by brushing alone, and professionally clean your teeth leaving them feeling clean and fresh.

Because dental hygiene is so important our Dental Hygienists will also show you how to look after your teeth in between appointments. By demonstrating on models and in your own mouth, we will show you how to effectively clean your teeth, especially in those difficult to reach areas.

Advanced Hygiene appointments

During a routine hygiene appointment we will remove plaque from your teeth and around your gum line via a procedure called scaling and polishing. In the scaling phase, we carefully remove any plaque deposits using handheld instruments before polishing your teeth to leave a fresh, clean and healthy feel and appearance.

During an enhanced appointment we will carry out in depth charting and treatment planning to devise a plan to work with you to manage your gum disease and restore heath to your mouth. This will be carried out over several appointments carrying out depth cleaning, working towards getting you back to routine hygiene appointments.

Children's Dental Hygiene

Children are always welcome at our practice and children’s teeth are just as susceptible to decay and other problems as adults’ teeth are.

A regular teeth-cleaning routine is essential and it is important to use a fluoride toothpaste, as this helps prevent and control tooth decay.
